BREEDING IRISH SPORTHORSES THAT ARE EUROPEN QUALITY HERE IN NORTH AMERICA. WHY IRISH SPORTHORSES? WHY IRISH DRAUGHT CROSSES?
Three main reasons: performance, temperament and versatility.
Irish sport horses have a history of performing well in eventing and cross country jumping. if you want to event, an Irish horse will take you around and you’ll have a blast doing it! Our ISH bloodlines we have here at Bally Carlton Horses are chock full of great eventing and showjumping horses, such as Sea Crest (Crystal Crest’s grand sire). Irish horses are known for their good temperament and trainable nature. Their willingness to work with riders and handlers makes them suitable for riders of different skill levels, from amateurs to professionals. These horses are versatile and can excel in a variety of equestrian disciplines.
We have a little more than one hundred acres in the north western part of the Willamette Valley, we have overall a fairly mild climate which allows us to keep horses outside for much of the year. We keep the horses in appropriate groups, grazing for as much time as possible. Living in a herd, we believe, helps the horse be a well adjusted individual and facilitates the horses knowing themselves, their bodies, gaining confidence in play and movement in the fields. We believe in raising our youngsters in varied footing helps their bodies grow strong. We can provide a group, age appropriate pasture board for weanlings to four year olds we have bred at a monthly cost. We can also provide training for starting their undersaddle career.
In running our trek for so many weeks in the summer, this allows us to get young horses out hacking as their first riding education. The 4 year olds learn to trailer, cross water, climb mountains, climb sand dunes, walk into rivers, stand tied at lunch, occasionally carry a saddle bag full of lunch or farrier equipment.
We usually have several excellent fox hunting mounts for sale, please inquire. These horses gallop in a group and have been ridden front middle and back, well schooled and ready to go especially in the fall.
